On April 20, the preparatory meeting of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) Music Therapy Committee was held in Panyu campus. Sang Binsheng, vice president and secretary general of WFCMS, Pan Ping, director of the academic department, and music therapists, psychologists, medical experts from music treatment centre in Hong Kong, Shanghai University, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Changzhi Medical College, Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xinghai Conservatory of Music attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Wang Xinhua, president of Guangzhou Medical University, the proposed chairman of the professional committee

The meeting

According to the relevant regulations of the WFCMS, the participants of the Preparatory Committee mainly discussed the composition of the council core members, the development plan of members, the management methods and development plan of the professional committee, the preparatory work for the inaugural meeting, and related matters.  According to the preparatory work plan, it is planned to hold the inaugural meeting of the special committee and the first music therapy academic forum on June 22 this year.

Vice president and secretary general of WFCMS Sang Binsheng fully affirmed the significance of the establishment of the Music Therapy Committee and the fruitful preparatory work of the preparatory group.  He encouraged the Music Therapy Committee to innovate its working mode, strengthen international exchange and cooperation, expand the service field of traditional Chinese medicine, improve the subject level and service ability, build a high level for the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and music, and make contributions to the health services of new age in China. He also hoped Guangzhou Medical University would make unremitting efforts on relevant work of the inaugural meeting, required the committee integrated into the strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao greater bay area.

The Music Therapy Committee is a professional academic group affiliated to World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, which is established by our university in conjunction with relevant institutions and organizations at home and abroad.  The committee aims at uniting the discipline strength of music health care and treatment at home and abroad, and with the joint efforts of music, medicine, psychology and related institutions and other professional workers and relevant persons, promoting the talent cultivation, scientific research and social services of music therapy discipline, and constructing modern music therapy with Holistic Integrative Medicine characteristics.

Under the guidance of the leadership of WFCMS throughout the morning, the meeting completed its agenda and reached a consensus on the composition of the core members of the council, the schedule of the inaugural meeting and other related matters.  Agree to submit "Administrative Measures of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies Music Therapy Professional Committee" and "Development Plan of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies Music Therapy Professional Committee" to the Council for discussion.  According to the preparatory work plan, the inaugural meeting of the professional committee and the first academic forum on music therapy will be held on 22 June this year.

The Music Therapy Committee is a subordinate and professional academic group under the WFCMS, which is established by our university in conjunction with relevant institutions worldwide.  The committee aims at uniting the discipline strength of music health care and treatment at home and abroad, and with the efforts of music, medicine, psychology and related institutions, promoting the social services of music therapy discipline, and constructing modern music therapy with integrative medicine characteristics.
