On December 6th, the Opening Ceremony for Class 2018 International Students was held in Panyu Campus. President Wang Xinhua attended the Opening Ceremony and delivered a speech. Other attendees included leaders of Dean’s Office, Students Affairs Office, Youth League, Department and School of Basic Science and all the members of Class 2018 and the student representatives of international students.
On behalf of Class 2018, SOLANKI SAKSHI ANIL, a freshman from India, gave a speech. ANIL pointed out that every student’s journey that ended up in their respective countries is leading them to the most memorable & beautiful journey of their life that is Guangzhou Medical University , where they could find challenging experience. They are ready to take the challenges as medical students and determined to be life saving doctors no matter how difficult it is . DUSHINKA, the student representative from Class 2017, shared her valuable experience in GMU with all the freshmen. She urged them to pratise Chinese whenever it is possible, embraced Chinese culture with their hearts and seized the every opportunity to communicate with teachers in order to learn all professional skills they needed to be a doctor.Thomas, the graduated student representative, used both Chinese and English to make a speech to welcome the freshman. He believes GMU is a reputed unversity with an amazing team of great scholars, scientists and lecturers. Hefeels profoundly grateful tohis professor and the university for granting with scholarship to study master degree in pediatric. He hopes the freshman could make up their minds to study at a postgraduate level in order to serve people better in the community.
On behalf of the faculty, DR. Jiang Xiaofeng extended a warm welcome to the new members of GMU family. He mentioned that he used to study in University of Munich in Germany to earn his doctorate degree and he could understand what internaional students needed to study abroad. experience He learned lots of knowledge and surgical skills and found that the the mostimportant thing during the his doctorate study is communication. He made suggestions to the freshman that whenever facing difficulties, the best way to solve the problems is to communicate with their teachers , classmates and the doctors politely . What’s more, he eoucouraged students to go study in western countries for their doctrate degree after their graduation from GMU.
President Xinhua expressed his warmest welcome to members of Class 2018 from all around the world. He briefly introduced the development of GMU in recent years. He emphasized that GMU has established collaborations with more than 20 universities and institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, which will provide the opportunities for international students to developed them selves. He wished their experience in GMU a fruitful, meaningful and memorable one in the coming six years. Then he offered four pieces of advice for them. Firstly, Try best to learn wisely, to become a wise learner. Secondly, make efforts to learn Chinese language and embrace the Chinese culture.Thirdly, to be dedicated and self-disciplined. Finally, embrace the diversity.As for the discipline, he admonished the students “your absence or being late in one class today may result a loss of life of a patient in the future, not just the score in the exam”.
In line with the internationalization development of GMU, the number of international students has been increasing steadily, and the structure has been optimized. GMU is now home to 233 international students from 27 countries including 223 undergraduates, 9 master students and 1 doctoral candidate, offering a full range of programs at undergraduate and graduate levels.
12月6日上午，我校2018级留学生开学典礼在番禺校区举行。校长王新华出席典礼并致辞，教务处、学生处、团委、基础学院等相关职能部门及二级单位负责人、2018级全体留学生新生及在校留学生代表参加了开学典礼。开学典礼由国际教育学院院长吕嘉春主持。
来自印度的SOLANKI SAKSHI ANIL代表全体新生发言，她提到虽然新生都来自于不同的国家，但最后他们都来到广州医科大学学习并开启一段非常美丽而有意义的旅程。在这里，他们可以找到目标和挑战。无论前路是多么艰辛，他们现在已经准备好迎接挑战并立志成为有抱负有理想的医生。高年级学生代表DUSHINKA与新同学们分享了自己在广医学习生活的美好体验，敦促同学们抓紧每一次可能的机会来练习中文，尽快适应环境，用心体验中国文化，珍惜与老师交流的机会，向老师学习专业知识和技巧，这样才能成为治病救人的医生。研究生代表Thomas天龙用中英双语向新生致以热烈的欢迎。他认为广州医科大学是一所拥有著名团队，科学家，教师的知名高校。他非常感谢学校和导师给予他奖学金的机会入读儿科专业硕士研究生。他希望新生能够志存高远，继续读研，这样才能够更好的服务社会。
教师代表、广州医科大学第二附属医院蒋小峰医生欢迎新同学们加入广医大家庭。他提到了自己曾经在德国慕尼黑大学深造并且获得博士学位，所以都很了解留学生在异地学习的心情和经历。在这段国外学习的经历中，他觉得最重要的事情就是沟通。他给留学生的建议是无论什么时候遇到困难，都不要放弃，最好的方法是礼貌的与老师、同学和医生交流，大部分的问题自然迎刃而解。再次，他鼓励留学生在广医毕业以后，可以继续出外深造，学习更多的知识。
王新华校长对从世界各地来到广医的2018级留学新生表示热烈的祝贺和欢迎。他简要介绍了学校近年来的发展动态、高水平大学建设以及国际项目合作情况。他希望同学们能够在广医度过愉快、充实的学习生活之旅，同时也提出四点建议：一是学会学习；二是学好中文并融入中国文化环境之中；三是要有奉献之精神和学会自律。第四是适应多元文化环境。

据悉，随着我校教育国际化发展，学校来华留学生规模稳步增长，结构不断优化。现有来自27个国家的在读学历留学生233人，涵盖了本科、硕士研究生、博士研究生等多个层次，其中本科生223人，硕士研究生9人，博士研究生1人。
